The International Samoa Tatau Festival is a celebration of the importance of the Tatau in the Samoan culture. Curious about those elaborate Samoan tattoos? Learn about the history, the relevance and the importance of tattoos in Samoan culture at the International Samoan Tatau Festival.
Tattoos, or Tatau, are worn by many Samoans as an open expression of their cultural and spiritual heritage. Elaborately designed, a Tatau can take weeks to complete.
The International Samoan Tatau Festival is a celebration of the Samoan culture and importance of Tatau in the Samoan Heritage. It is also a celebration of how tatau has passed through generations and has transcended geographical boundaries to connect the international tattooing community to its origins and by doing so enhancing the beauty of the art. This is reflected in the theme being "From Roots to Rebirth: Celebrating the Art".
Run by the Suluape family in Samoa in partnership with the Malofie a Samoa (Tatau) Association, the Festival creates an amazing celebration of both Samoan culture and tatau and provides people from all over the world a chance to experience the traditional Tatau experience.
