Samoa is a great place to tour by bike. Whether you want to travel with an escorted group or just hire a bike and charge off with a map and itinerary we can help ensure you have a great time. It’s not just about riding – Samoa by bike is a swimming, camping, snorkelling, beach holiday rich in new cultural experiences.
A Typical Day
Waking as the first sun rays of the day sneak through the matting sides of the fale, it is time to pull on a pair of togs and head in for a swim. Take a mask and snorkel as every fale has good coral to explore within 200m.
Breakfast in the open sided dining room is usually followed by another quick swim before packing gear in the support van and pedalling off.
Most days we cycle for one to three hours, but the cycling is regularly interrupted by sight-seeing stops and swims. Green coconuts, which have a slight effervescence, provide great refreshment along with the mangoes and bananas.
By early afternoon we have arrived at the next beach and after a swim, settled in for a relaxed afternoon. This is usually a local beer or two, a read and some more swimming.
The evening meals are varied. Samoa is renowned for oka, raw fish in coconut milk that is unbelievably good. There is often also an excellent selection of cooked fish. Other nights have a more traditional flavour that will include chicken, taro and breadfruit.
After dinner there may be a cultural show or the local band may play for a couple of hours. If you don't fancy the formal entertainment (or there is none), it's great to just sit on the beach, chat and watch the evening go by.
Our regularly scheduled tours depart from New Zealand for two weeks of cycling, swimming and exploring. We spend most of our time on the Island of Savaii, but leave plenty of time to explore Apia at the end. The roads are mostly sealed and a sag wagon carries your gear (and you if needed). More details at Samoa cycle tours.
We can organise your bike tour, arrange your accommodation and carry your bags, Depart any time, stay as long as you want, cycle as much as you want. Children welcome to ride (we have suitable hire bikes) or to travel in the van (we can provide child minders – but you see them at each stop and there is much to stop and see). See Cycle Tours for more details.
If you prefer to explore Samoa a little more independently we offer a bike hire service. This year we have new GT Aggressor 1.0s with disk brakes. We also have women’s bikes with a low bar. Bikes come fully setup for touring with:
- Handle bar bag
- Gel seat
- Repair kit
- Spare tube
