Family adventures, be swept away in stunning Samoa
If you really think about it, it’s amazing how little time we actually spend with our families. Work, after school activities and social obligations all contribute to the time we spend away from those that matter most to us.
Not many places in the world can offer families of all sizes the kind of holiday where each member can reconnect with each other. Away from the distractions and the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist clutter, Samoa offers the perfect island setting that forces you to slow down and spend time with your loved ones.
Samoa is considered one of the last bastions of Polynesian culture. Life has changed very little among many of Samoa’s people with time honoured customs still an integral part of everyday life.
Fa’a Samoa (The Samoan Way) is the essence of the Samoan culture. According to Fa’a Samoa, family is all important and is to be protected and nurtured.
Children are celebrated (White Sunday, similar to Mothers or Fathers Day - only for children - is celebrated every October) and there are facilities and services specifically for children.
In fact, coming to Samoa is like entering one big family home, where everyone takes care of and watches out for each other!
There are a number of activities the whole family can enjoy together from the active to the educational and from the adventurous to the downright relaxing. Hire a bike and explore the gorgeous coastline or the lush tropical interiors or put on your bathers and take a dip with the turtles, travel to Samoa awakens the adventurous child in all of us.
For activities sans children, why not wile away the days lying on the beach or at a couple’s spa treatment or bike riding through the lush green interior or golfing at our world class greens?
Vailima, also known as the abode of poet and writer Robert Louis Stevenson, is on the main island of Upolu and has been converted into a museum and is open to the public. Set in lush tropical gardens one can see how Samoa, where is spent the final years of his life, inspired his world famous novel Treasure Island.
Savaii, also known as the Big Island, is rugged in its beauty and boasts stunning inland trenches and waterfalls, steep gorges, lava fields and spectacular blow holes, both the young and young at heart will be mesmerized by the island’s natural wonders.
