Vehicle Rental Advice
Get on the open road and explore Samoa at your own pace.
Hiring a rental vehicle in Samoa is relatively easy and stress-free but there are a few things to note before you get on the road. There are many rental car companies to choose from and you can hire everything from sedans and 4WDs, to 12-seater vans to transport a group. Air conditioning doesn't come as standard, but that's what roll-down windows are for!
Every visitor to Samoa who wishes to rent a vehicle must apply for a Temporary Drivers Licence, which costs $20 tala for one month and $40 tala for two months.
In order to qualify for this, you must have a full Drivers Licence from your country of origin. You will not be issued a Temporary Drivers License if you have a Learners, Restricted or Provisional Drivers Licence.
Aside from the Land Transport Authority at Vaitele (in Apia), oher agencies such as Samoa Post and many of the vehicle rental companies in Apia and the airport will validate your temporary licence.
If you require further information, contact the Land Transport Authority and/or your rental car company.
