Special Weather Bulletin Number Four (4) for Samoa

ISSUED BY SAMOA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES AT  11:30 A.M (LOCAL TIME) FRIDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2010

A Gale Warning is now in effect for Upolu
A Gale Watch is in effect for Savaii
Flood Advisory is now in effect for Upolu

(i) Tropical Cyclone RENE was located at about 188 nautical miles east of Apia or 166 nautical miles east of Aleipata at 7.00 am this morning.
(ii) Rene is currently moving west southwest at 14 mph and  it is expecting to relocate at about 114 nautical miles southeast of Apia or 89 nautical miles southeast of Aleipata at 7.00 pm this evening.
(iii) Southeast to southerly winds of 35 to 45 mph will affect east and southern side of Upolu islands from late this evening and some areas of Upolu from overnight and tomorrow morning. Gale force winds of  30 – 45  mph could affect southeast area of  Savaii Island from tomorrow morning if TC Rene continue moving westward.
(iv) Occasional showers with heavy falls are expected from late tonight.
(v) For the southeast of Savaii -southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph from late tonight and might increase to gale force winds tomorrow    morning. Scattered showers with possible higher gusts.
