Mt Vaea

This highly popular walking trail in Apia takes you to Robert Louis Stevenson's Tomb and offers beautiful views of Samoa's capital city.

The walk to the tombs of Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife Fanny atop Mt Vaea takes about 30 minutes if you take the short path, though the terrain is quite steep and can be very slippery when wet.

Another option is to take a 50-minute walk weaving through dense tropical rainforest and passing a magnificent Banyan tree. Either way, bottled water and good footwear are recommended.

Mt Vaea sits above the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum in the Vailima National Reserve. The climb to the top is worth it for panoramic views across Apia, the surrounding mountains and valleys, and the Pacific.
