Cycling at your own pace allows you ample time to enjoy the lush, tropical vegetation and pristine beaches. Strategic stops are planned to ensure you experience snippets of our fa’a Samoa. If you have the time visit some of our local initiatives including Lata Plantation, certified organic plantations, fale lalaga (mat weaving) and craft making.
With a leisurely cycling itinerary, you’re guaranteed to have a relaxing holiday. Our route circles the entire island and includes intriguing points of interest like the last place on earth to see the sun, swimming with the turtles and lava fields – as well as the customary snorkelling, surfing and enjoying the local fare. We even include a unique village visit, so you leave Samoa with not only an incredible experience but also an enlightening one!
How long is the tour?
The cycling tour is on Savai’i only for 8 days. Depending on your flights and other plans we can meet you at these points on the main island of Upolu (where the international airport and capital are located):
• Apia (the capital on Upolu)
• Mulifanua Wharf (where the ferry travels from Upolu to Savai’i)
The pickup location and time is flexible and depends if you are coming directly from the airport, what flight you are on or have spent a few days on the main island first. Let us know what your flights are and we will make sure we find a suitable solution for transfers.
How fit do I need to be?
Any adult who is moderately fit will be able to complete the tour. Don’t forget it’s not a race. The roads on Savai’i are sealed and excellent for riding on – and there is not a huge amount of vehicle traffic. The roads are generally flat and sea-side, but there are parts of the island when we travel inland that is lush and hilly. The average riding distance at any day is about 38 km. The total loop is 180kms.
Do I need to bring my bike?
No. Having been on cycle tours in Samoa and internationally, we understand the beauty of convenience. We provide you with top quality Avanti bikes (24 gears) and helmets purchased in New Zealand.
Most of our bikes have water bottle cages and there is an option for a front- handle bag for your camera, wallet, water bottle, sunscreen and other small personal items you’ll need. Our support vehicle will transport your luggage to the various overnight destinations.
