Catching a public bus in Samoa is done by waving one down as it approaches. All buses are named with their destination, but you may ask the driver if you are unsure. Generally there is a cord to pull when you’re nearing your destination.
Many buses are quite old, they may occasionally break down. It’s not unheard of for buses to stop at supermarkets and wait while passengers do their shopping.
There are no bus stops in Samoa, but you can board a bus at their main terminals. In Apia, it is located behind the food market in Fugalei and opposite the flea market at Savalalo.
On Savai’i, the bus terminal is at the market and main wharf in Salelologa.
Fares are paid in cash as you depart the bus; it is a good idea to carry small change - the most you should expect to pay is ST$12 per person.
