Bus travelling on Upolu in Samoa

Transport

Exploring Samoa is easy, with many different types of transport available to visitors.

Spend your holiday discovering the islands independently by renting a car or scooter, or even a bike for a truly active adventure. Hiring both a vehicle and a guide/driver ensures you see as much of the islands as possible, perfect for a shorter stay.

Or, live like the locals do, and catch one of Samoa’s colourful public buses - payment is cash only. The buses don't run to a firm schedule and can't be relied on for meeting a tight timeframe, but are perfect for exploring Samoa at your leisure, and experiencing how the locals live.

There are many taxis on both Upolu and Savai’i, that are relatively low-priced and only accept cash.

Upolu and Savai’i Islands are linked by two regularly-scheduled ferries that take foot passengers and vehicles. Smaller islands can be reached using small local operators or chartering a boat.
