A rental vehicle is a great way to get around Samoa and see the many attractions on offer.
Samoa has many rental companies that offer cars, vans with up to 16 seats, 4WD vehicles and scooters.
Before you drive in Samoa, you'll need a temporary drivers’ licence from the Transport Control Board.
Check with your chosen car rental company whether they offer temporary drivers’ licences, or apply at Faleolo International Airport, the Land Transport Authority at Vaitele in Apia, or Samoa Post.
Ensure your rental car company does an inspection with you, noting any existing dents or things that don’t work - so you don’t get charged for them on your return.
If you rent a car from Faleolo International Airport, you'll need to pay a ST$2 fee to leave the carpark - payable by cash only.
Samoans drive on the left-hand side of the road at 40km/h in towns and villages and 56km/h on the open road.
Always watch for children and animals, especially at night.
